Precautions

This medication should not be mixed with calcium-containing solutions or other drugs. Even if administered separately, co-administration can be dangerous. Particularly, in newborns under 28 days of age, intravenous administration of calcium-containing fluids can lead to precipitation due to the combination with this medication, and it should be absolutely avoided. If this medication and calcium-containing solutions are administered together to newborns or premature infants, there is a risk of precipitation in the lungs or kidneys, leading to serious side effects, thus caution is necessary. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or allergies to cephalosporins or penicillin antibiotics should not use this medication. Patients with allergies to local anesthetics such as lidocaine should also avoid this medication, and this medication containing lidocaine should not be administered intravenously. In premature infants or newborns with bilirubin binding disorders, administration of this medication increases the risk of bilirubin encephalopathy, hence it should not be used. This medication should be used cautiously in patients with a history of allergies or those prone to allergic symptoms such as bronchial asthma, rash, and urticaria. Patients with severely impaired kidney function may experience increased blood concentration, hence dose adjustment is necessary. Patients who cannot take medication orally, the elderly, or those in poor general health may show signs of vitamin K deficiency, thus blood tests should be performed, or vitamin K administered if necessary. Use of this medication can lead to side effects such as eosinophilia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, diarrhea, rash, increased liver enzymes, headache, dizziness, loose stools, nausea, vomiting, itching, hematuria, diabetes, phlebitis, injection site pain, fever, chills, stomatitis, candidiasis, vitamin K deficiency symptoms, vitamin B complex deficiency symptoms, edema, ventricular extrasystole, sweating, flushing, palpitations, nosebleeds, hypotension, Clostridium difficile diarrhea, pancreatitis, stomatitis, and glossitis, so report any unusual symptoms to healthcare personnel. Severe allergic reactions or shock symptoms may occur, hence patients should be closely monitored during administration. This medication can alter the normal flora, potentially leading to diarrhea or colitis caused by Clostridium difficile, so immediate consultation with healthcare personnel is necessary if symptoms of diarrhea appear. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should carefully consider the risks and benefits of using this medication, and caution is also advised for breastfeeding individuals. The elderly may be more prone to side effects due to decreased physiological function, hence careful administration with dose and interval adjustments is necessary. When administering this medication, it is advisable to regularly monitor liver and kidney function as well as blood status. Caution is needed as side effects such as dizziness may occur when driving or operating machinery. There is no specific antidote for overdose, thus treatment should be symptomatic, and this medication should not be administered simultaneously with calcium-containing solutions, and the administering line must be thoroughly cleaned.
