Gastrointestinal infections such as peritonitis, cholecystitis, and cholangitis can be treated, and it is also used for infections in patients with impaired immune function. This medication is used in the treatment of meningitis.
Adults and children over 12 years: Administer 1 to 2 g (activity) of Ceftriaxone once daily via intravenous or intramuscular injection. For infections caused by severe pathogens or moderately sensitive pathogens, the dose may be increased up to 4 g (activity) once daily. Elderly: Follow the adult dosage and administration without adjustments. Gonorrhea: For treatment of gonorrhea caused by penicillin-sensitive and resistant organisms, a single intramuscular injection of 250 mg (activity) is recommended.
Neonates (up to 14 days old): 20 to 50 mg (activity) per kg of body weight, administered once daily, not exceeding 50 mg (activity) per kg. Should be administered regardless of whether they are preterm or term. Infants and Young Children.
This medication should not be mixed or administered simultaneously with solutions containing calcium or other medications. Especially in neonates, combining calcium with this medication can lead to precipitation and serious side effects, so it must never be administered. Patients with allergies to this medication or with hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillin antibiotics should not use this product. Additionally, neonates with jaundice or problems with bilirubin binding should not receive this medication. Patients with a history of drug allergies, those with severe kidney disease, the elderly, and patients in poor general condition must use this product with caution and their condition should be closely monitored as needed, such as through blood tests. This medication can cause various side effects, with common symptoms including diarrhea, rash, liver enzyme abnormalities, and decrease in blood cell counts. Rarely, serious allergic reactions, interstitial pneumonia, severe skin reactions, and kidney dysfunction may occur, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to healthcare personnel immediately. During administration, liver and kidney functions, blood tests, etc., should be regularly conducted, and if signs of hypersensitivity or shock occur, treatment must be stopped immediately, and emergency measures should be taken. This medication can interact with other cephalosporin antibiotics, aminoglycoside antibiotics, etc., so caution should be exercised when used together. Moreover, concurrent use with vitamin K antagonists may increase the risk of bleeding, requiring regular monitoring of coagulation status. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should use this medication cautiously, considering its effects on the fetus or neonate, and it should only be administered when necessary. This medication is not safe for neonates or infants due to the risk of bilirubin encephalopathy. Elderly patients may exhibit adverse reactions more easily due to decreased physiological functions, thus dosage adjustments and monitoring of their condition are necessary. When using this medication, it may affect the results of some clinical laboratory tests such as blood glucose tests or urine sugar tests; thus, caution must be exercised in testing methods. When administered intravenously, pain or phlebitis may occur at the injection site, so the injection rate should be slow, and attention should be paid to the injection technique. Additionally, this medication should not be administered through the same infusion route as calcium-containing solutions, and even in non-neonates, the injection site must be thoroughly cleaned before sequential administration. Post-administration, the patient's condition should be adequately observed to confirm the occurrence of adverse reactions, and caution should be exercised as symptoms such as dizziness may appear when driving or operating machinery.
