Prevention of asthma and relief of allergic rhinitis symptoms
This medication helps prevent and continuously treat asthma. It is also used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.
This medication is taken once daily; for asthma patients, it should be taken in the evening. For allergic rhinitis patients, the dosing schedule is set according to their condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet once daily in the evening. Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily.
This medication may cause severe neuropsychiatric adverse effects; if any changes such as anxiety, restlessness, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts occur during treatment, consult a doctor immediately. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which should be avoided by patients with the hereditary condition phenylketonuria, and aspartame intake should be limited. Contains lactose; it should not be administered to patients with genetic conditions such as galactose intolerance or lactase deficiency. This medication is not for the treatment of acute asthma attacks; appropriate emergency medications should always be kept available in case of asthma exacerbation. Do not abruptly stop or substitute inhaled corticosteroids during treatment, nor should this medication be used alone for exercise-induced bronchospasm. Patients with aspirin hypersensitivity should avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs during treatment. Increased eosinophils and vasculitis symptoms may occur while taking this medication; if any rash, worsening pulmonary symptoms, or cardiac complications arise, medical consultation is needed. Interactions with other medications are rare, but appropriate monitoring is required when used with specific drugs as directed by a physician. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a physician and use this medication cautiously, especially during early pregnancy, only if clearly necessary. Pediatrics and the elderly may also take this medication, but special attention to safety and dosage adjustments based on age is needed. In case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes; therefore, receiving general treatment and monitoring based on symptoms is important. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container. If worsening asthma symptoms or new symptoms appear during treatment, consult a healthcare professional immediately, and do not arbitrarily stop or change to another asthma medication without a doctor’s guidance.
