How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered 1 to 2 times a day just before or with meals. The dosage may be adjusted based on each patient's current treatment regimen, effectiveness, and tolerability, which requires appropriate blood sugar monitoring. Usually, treatment is initiated at a low dose, and adjustments can be made according to the patient's current medications and blood sugar levels. In clinical trials, the initial daily dose was 2mg of glimepiride/metformin hydrochloride.

Precautions

This medication may cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, so treatment should be temporarily suspended, and the physician consulted if there is a rapid decline in kidney function or signs of dehydration. This medication should not be administered to patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, acute metabolic acidosis, severe liver or kidney function impairment, pregnant women, and breastfeeding women. Patients at high risk of hypoglycemia, such as the elderly, those in a malnourished state, with irregular eating habits, or engaging in vigorous physical exercise, should be monitored closely during administration. Initial treatment may lead to gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting), but these are usually temporary and can be alleviated by taking the medication with food or gradually increasing the dosage. This medication may interact with other medications that have blood sugar-lowering effects, so if you are taking other drugs, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this medication and should use other methods, such as insulin therapy, to control their blood sugar. Elderly patients often experience diminished kidney function; therefore, regular kidney function tests should be conducted before and during treatment with this medication, and dosage may need to be adjusted according to kidney function. If unexplained muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, or altered consciousness occurs during treatment, discontinue use immediately and inform a physician, as these could be signs of lactic acidosis. Overdose may lead to hypoglycemia; if symptoms appear, immediately consume sugar and seek medical assistance. This medication may decrease vitamin B12 levels, so regular blood tests to monitor vitamin B12 levels are recommended for those on long-term treatment. When driving or operating machinery, caution is advised due to the risk of hypoglycemia or impaired agility. The safety for children and adolescents has not been adequately established, so special care is needed when administering this medication to minors. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers to maintain its quality.
