Treatment of primary nocturnal enuresis (age 5 years and older) and nocturia associated with nocturnal polyuria (adults)
This medication is used for the treatment of primary nocturnal enuresis in children aged 5 years and older and for nocturia symptoms associated with adults. It helps alleviate the symptoms of frequent urination at night, facilitating restful sleep. By improving these symptoms, it aids in enhancing the quality of daily life. It assists patients in reducing the discomfort caused by nighttime urination issues, enabling them to maintain a comfortable lifestyle.
Treatment of nocturia symptoms associated with nocturnal polyuria (adults only) : Administer desmopressin acetate 0.1mg orally at bedtime. If the effect is insufficient after one week, increase the dose to 0.2mg; if the effect remains insufficient, the dose may be increased at one-week intervals up to 0.4mg. Discontinue treatment if there is no clinical effect within 4 weeks after the dose has been established. Initiating treatment with this drug is not recommended in patients aged 65 years or older. If treatment is necessary in elderly patients, monitor serum sodium levels and other parameters closely. (See section 5. General Precautions under Precautions for Use.)
Primary nocturnal enuresis (5 years and older) : Administer 0.2mg of desmopressin acetate orally at bedtime. The dose may be increased to 0.4mg if the effect is insufficient. Whether to continue treatment should be determined after 3 months of administration, following discontinuation of treatment for at least 1 week.
This medication contains ingredients that affect fluid regulation in the body and may cause hyponatremia and water intoxication, particularly in elderly patients or those with specific conditions. Therefore, it is important to limit fluid intake only to the extent that thirst is relieved. This medication should not be administered to patients with known allergies to it or those with specific renal diseases, heart failure, or who are taking diuretics. Additionally, patients with genetic lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not use this medication. Caution is required when administering to patients with hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney disease, pregnant women, children, and the elderly, particularly those at risk of fluid and electrolyte imbalances. Fluid intake must be strictly limited during treatment, and patients should avoid drinking large amounts of water for a certain period before and after administration. Due to a higher risk of hyponatremia, regular blood tests are necessary for elderly patients. Patients with nocturia should maintain a urination record before treatment for accurate diagnosis. Treatment should be discontinued in the presence of fluid and electrolyte imbalances due to acute infections or fever. This medication may interact with other drugs, especially antidepressants, diuretics, corticosteroids, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, requiring careful monitoring when used concurrently. Pregnant women should use this medication cautiously as there is a risk of uterine contractions, and breastfeeding women are advised to discontinue breastfeeding during treatment. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as fluid retention and hyponatremia may occur, necessitating dose adjustments and fluid restrictions based on symptoms, and in severe cases, appropriate treatment in a hospital setting is required.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. Additionally, it should be kept away from excessively hot or cold environments, ideally stored at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius.
