Treatment of gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, relief of symptoms related to gastroesophageal reflux disease and maintenance therapy, combination therapy with antibiotics for Helicobacter pylori infection in gastrointestinal ulcers, treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
This medication is used to treat gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It also helps relieve symptoms associated with erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is applicable for long-term maintenance therapy of gastroesophageal reflux disease and is used in combination with antibiotics to treat gastrointestinal ulcer patients infected with Helicobacter pylori. Additionally, it is effective in treating Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Overall, this medication is used to improve and manage symptoms of various gastrointestinal disorders.
For gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer: Typically, administer 10 mg orally once daily. Depending on symptoms, may increase to 20 mg orally once daily. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. If not resolved after 8 weeks of proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy, may administer an additional 10 mg or 20 mg orally twice daily for 8 weeks.
This medication is an inhibitor of gastric acid secretion used to treat gastric ulcers or gastroesophageal reflux disease. It should not be administered to patients with known allergies or previous hypersensitivity to certain ingredients. Additionally, caution is needed for patients allergic to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics regarding concomitant antibiotic use. It is recommended to avoid using this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Patients with impaired liver function or the elderly should use this medication with caution, as side effects may be more pronounced. If any hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rash, hives, or itching occur while taking this medication, discontinue use immediately. Regular blood tests are recommended as red blood cell or white blood cell counts may change. Liver function tests should also be performed regularly to check for elevated liver enzyme levels or liver damage. Consult a healthcare professional if any cardiac-related symptoms or gastrointestinal symptoms, or neurological symptoms occur. As this medication strongly suppresses gastric acid, there is an increased risk of fractures with long-term use, thus monitoring is required. Magnesium levels may decrease, so periodic monitoring of serum magnesium concentration is needed if taken long-term or with certain medications. This medication may slightly increase the risk of gastrointestinal bacterial infections, so inform healthcare professionals if diarrhea persists. Be cautious of drowsiness or dizziness when driving or operating machinery. This medication may interact with other medications, therefore, inform your healthcare professional of any other medications you are taking. Do not chew or crush the tablet; it should be swallowed whole, and keep out of the reach of children. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so treatment and supportive care according to symptoms are necessary. If utilizing this medication long-term, regularly check for any side effects, and consult a healthcare professional immediately if any abnormal symptoms arise.
