This medication helps to prevent and continuously treat asthma. It is also used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily, with asthma patients taking it in the evening and allergic rhinitis patients deciding the administration time based on their condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet in the evening once daily. This medication should be administered 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 6–14 years: Chew 1 tablet of montelukast (5 mg) once daily. This medication should be administered 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. While taking this medication, there may be abnormal effects on the nervous system, so if symptoms such as restlessness, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts occur, you must inform your doctor immediately. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, and patients with phenylketonuria should avoid taking it. Patients with a genetic problem of lactose intolerance should also refrain from taking this medication. After administration, various adverse reactions such as fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, indigestion, cough, and rash may occur, and if symptoms are severe, consult your doctor. This medication is not an immediate treatment for acute asthma attacks, so an emergency inhaler should always be carried. Avoid using this medication in conjunction with aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Pregnant women should consult a doctor and take this medication only if necessary, and nursing mothers should also exercise caution. It can be used in children and the elderly, but dosage and safety must be confirmed according to age. In case of overdose, as there is no specific antidote, you must go to a hospital immediately for appropriate treatment.
