This medication is effective in preventing and continuously treating asthma. It is also used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is to be taken once daily, preferably in the evening for asthma patients. For allergic rhinitis patients, the dosing time should be determined based on the patient's condition. For patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis, take 1 tablet in the evening once daily. This medication should be administered 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Children aged 2 to 5 years should chew 4 mg once daily as montelukast. This medication should be administered 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Precautions

This medication is used to manage the symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis. While taking this medication, neuropsychiatric symptoms may occur, so if symptoms such as agitation, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts arise, you should consult a doctor immediately. The artificial sweetener aspartame contained in this medication is contraindicated for patients with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria. It contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance should not take it. Generally, this medication is not a treatment for acute asthma attacks, so a separate emergency medication should always be prepared for emergencies. Patients who are hypersensitive to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid these medications while taking this drug.
