This medication is used for hypercholesterolemia, particularly for primary hypercholesterolemia and familial hypercholesterolemia. It acts as an adjunct when dietary changes and exercise are insufficient, lowering total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels to delay the progression of atherosclerosis. Additionally, it is used as an adjunct to diet in children of certain age groups with high LDL cholesterol levels or risk factors for early cardiovascular disease. It is also beneficial for treating patients with dysbetalipoproteinemia and for reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Specifically, it reduces the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and revascularization procedures in men over 50 years of age and women over 60 years of age with elevated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels and additional risk factors. In summary, this drug is used to improve various conditions related to hypercholesterolemia and enhance patient health by reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
