This medication is used to improve urinary disturbances caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia, such as frequent urges to urinate or difficulty in urination.
Adults: Administer tamsulosin hydrochloride 0.2 mg orally once daily after a meal. This medicine must be swallowed whole; do not crush or chew it. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to symptoms.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. Patients who have had allergic reactions to this drug or any of its ingredients should not take it. Patients with orthostatic hypotension, which may cause sudden drops in blood pressure, should avoid this drug as it may worsen symptoms. Patients with severe liver impairment may have increased blood levels of this drug, so caution is needed. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should not take this medication. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or specific metabolic disorders should not use it. Patients with severe kidney impairment should use this drug with caution due to the potential for increased blood levels. Older adults may have differing responses to medications due to decreased bodily function, so caution is necessary. Patients currently taking blood pressure-lowering medications or certain cardiovascular drugs are at risk of excessively low blood pressure when using this drug, especially when combined with PDE5 inhibitors used for treating erectile dysfunction. Care should be taken with patients using alpha-1 blockers, as there is a risk of orthostatic hypotension when used in combination with this drug. Patients with a history of syncope related to urination should also use this medication with caution. This drug can cause syncope or loss of consciousness due to lowered blood pressure; if symptoms occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and medical consultation sought. Symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, drowsiness, insomnia, and decreased libido may appear. Cardiovascular adverse reactions, such as increased heart rate, arrhythmias, and decreased blood pressure, have also been reported. If allergic reactions such as rashes, itching, or hives occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately. Gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, loss of appetite, constipation, and diarrhea may also occur. Liver function abnormalities or jaundice may develop, so regular liver function tests may be required. Other reported adverse reactions include nasal congestion, edema, urinary incontinence, gynecomastia, priapism, and visual disturbances. This medication can cause excessively low blood pressure in cases of overdose, so the dosage must be strictly adhered to. Sudden position changes may lead to drops in blood pressure, so it's advisable to move slowly. This drug acts as a symptom-relieving treatment and does not address the underlying causes; if ineffective, another treatment option should be considered. Caution is needed when performing activities at heights or driving vehicles due to potential side effects, such as dizziness. Since prostate cancer can present similarly to benign prostatic hyperplasia, it is essential to confirm the absence of prostate cancer before taking this medication. Rarely, priapism may occur, and if this symptom appears, the doctor should be informed immediately. Special precautions may be necessary during surgery for cataracts or glaucoma. This drug can interact with other medications, so patients taking blood pressure-lowering agents, PDE5 inhibitors, CYP3A4 inhibitors, cimetidine, warfarin, etc., must inform their healthcare provider. Particularly, taking this drug with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors can significantly increase blood levels of the drug, creating risks. This medication is not used in women or pediatric patients, and in older patients, renal function should be checked, starting at a lower dose while observing progress. When taking this medication, tablets should not be crushed or chewed, and it must be taken out of its PTP packaging.
