Precautions

This drug is a beta-lactam antibiotic and should not be administered to patients who have had allergic reactions to penicillin or cephalosporin drugs. In particular, caution is needed for patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia as they are at a higher risk of rash. Patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice should also avoid its use due to the risk of recurrence. Patients with liver impairment or moderate to severe kidney impairment may experience increased drug concentration, necessitating dosage adjustment and monitoring. Care should be taken when used by patients with allergic tendencies, those who have difficulty with oral intake, elderly patients, and those in poor general condition. Gastrointestinal adverse reactions such as diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain may occur, and if severe diarrhea or abdominal pain develops, medication should be discontinued immediately. Liver dysfunction may also occur, so liver function tests should be performed regularly in elderly patients, males, and during prolonged use exceeding 14 days. Severe skin reactions such as rashes, itching, and in serious cases, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, may appear, and if symptoms occur, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical advice should be sought. Hematological anomalies such as leukopenia, anemia, and thrombocytopenia may occur rarely, so vigilance for unusual symptoms is necessary. Central nervous system reactions may include agitation, anxiety, dizziness, and rare seizures; if neurological symptoms appear, consultation with healthcare professionals is required. Acute kidney failure or nephritis may occur rarely, necessitating kidney function testing. This medication may affect intestinal flora and lead to dysbiosis such as stomatitis and candidiasis. There may be a tendency to bleed due to vitamin K deficiency, so caution is necessary if bleeding symptoms occur. Long-term use of this drug may lead to the development of resistant bacteria, so it is recommended to administer for the minimum duration after susceptibility testing. Patients with hypersensitivity to penicillin may experience severe allergic reactions, requiring monitoring after administration and immediate treatment in emergency situations. There is a risk of antibiotic-associated pseudomembranous colitis, so if diarrhea or abdominal pain is severe, use should be discontinued and medical attention sought. It is safest for women in the early stages of pregnancy or those capable of becoming pregnant to avoid this medication. Caution is needed during breastfeeding as adverse reactions may occur in infants. Use is recommended for children aged 12 years and older or those weighing over 40 kg, and it should be given cautiously to the elderly due to the increased risk of adverse reactions from decreased physiological functions. This drug may interact with other medications, particularly anticoagulants and certain antibiotics. In cases of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms, renal failure, and seizures may appear, requiring immediate cessation of use and appropriate treatment.
