This medication helps to prevent asthma attacks and manage symptoms on a continuous basis. It is also used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily. Precautions

This medication may cause serious neuropsychiatric adverse events; if you experience symptoms such as anxiety, restlessness, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts while taking it, consult a physician immediately. This medication contains aspartame, an artificial sweetener, which should not be taken by patients with phenylketonuria. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should not take it. Adverse reactions such as fatigue, headache, indigestion, cough, and rash may occur, so monitor your condition closely. It is not suitable for the treatment of acute asthma attacks, so have separate emergency medications ready in case of emergencies. Patients with a known hypersensitivity to aspirin should avoid taking this medication along with aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and must consult with a physician before taking it. Rare vasculitis symptoms related to eosinophilia may occur while taking this medication; report any skin rashes or worsening respiratory symptoms to your healthcare provider immediately. No significant drug interactions have been reported when this medication is taken with other asthma treatments, but monitoring is necessary when combined with certain medications, under physician's guidance. It should only be taken during pregnancy if absolutely necessary, and caution is required while breastfeeding. Children and elderly patients may also use it, but should do so according to a physician's instructions considering safety and efficacy based on age. As there is no specific antidote for overdose, general treatment according to symptoms and monitoring by healthcare providers is necessary. Store this medication out of reach of children, and it is safer not to transfer it to another container. If asthma symptoms worsen or new symptoms appear while taking the medication, consult a physician immediately and do not stop taking the medication on your own.
