This medication helps prevent and treat asthma. It is also used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 15 and older should take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily. This medication should be taken once daily, preferably in the evening for asthma patients. For the 10 mg orally dissolving film, take one 10 mg film by placing it on the tongue and allowing it to dissolve without water, once daily.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14 should chew 5 mg of montelukast once daily. Children aged 2 to 5 should chew 4 mg of montelukast once daily. Children aged 6 to 14.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis, and should not be used during an acute asthma attack. During treatment, nervous system side effects such as agitation, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts may occur; if any of these changes are observed, consult a physician immediately. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, so patients with phenylketonuria should avoid taking it. It contains lactose, so it should not be used by those with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders. Be cautious as side effects such as fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, cough, and rash may occur during use. Particularly, individuals with aspirin hypersensitivity should avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while on this medication. If pregnant or nursing, you should consult with a physician before taking this medication, and only take it when necessary. It can be taken by children and elderly patients, but dose adjustments or caution may be needed according to age. In case of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, seek appropriate treatment at a medical facility immediately. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to another container. If symptoms worsen or new symptoms appear during treatment, consult a physician, and always carry an emergency inhaler for acute exacerbations.

Urticaria, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mouth/eye mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attack, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, jaundice, severe malaise, sudden and very severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizure, consciousness confusion, vision abnormalities, paralysis, urine changes.

Mild side effects

Weakness/fatigue, fever, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, infectious gastroenteritis, toothache, dizziness, headache, nasal congestion, cough, influenza, rash, pyuria, pharyngitis, sinusitis, nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, otitis, viral infection, laryngitis, urticaria, chickenpox, pneumonia, dermatitis, conjunctivitis, drowsiness, perceptual abnormalities/perceptual decrease, palpitations, thrombocytopenia, aggressive behavior, agitation, anxiety, depression, disorientation, attention deficit.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

This medication is sensitive to moisture and light, so it should be stored at room temperature between 1°C and 30°C. It is also important to store the medication in a sealed container to prevent contact with air.
