Treatment of essential hypertension and heart failure (including ACE inhibitor intolerance), reduction of the risk of death after myocardial infarction
This medication is primarily used to manage essential hypertension. It is also effective for heart failure patients with ACE inhibitor intolerance, helping to treat those with moderate to severe symptomatic heart failure. After myocardial infarction, it is used to reduce the risk of death in patients with left ventricular dysfunction or reduced contractility. Overall, it is used to improve patients' cardiovascular health by preventing complications associated with hypertension, heart failure, and myocardial infarction.
For essential hypertension, it is recommended to take 80 mg orally once daily as valsartan. If blood pressure is not well controlled, the dosage may be increased to 160 mg once daily or combined with a diuretic. If necessary, the maximum dose can be increased to 320 mg once daily. Elderly patients (75 years and older) should start with 40 mg once daily. For heart failure, the initial dosing is recommended at 40 mg orally twice daily.
The safety and efficacy in children and adolescents under 18 years of age have not been established.
