Mucolytic and expectorant treatment for acute and chronic respiratory diseases
This medication alleviates excessive mucus secretion due to acute and chronic respiratory diseases and helps to expel mucus by thinning it. This facilitates the clearance of mucus from the bronchi, making breathing comfortable. Therefore, it is used for mucolysis and expectoration in acute and chronic respiratory diseases.
Adults: Administer 300 mg of erdosteine orally 2~3 times daily. When used for acute respiratory disease, do not administer continuously for more than 10 days.
This medication should not be used by individuals who have an allergic reaction to this medication or its components. Patients with liver cirrhosis or cystathionine synthase deficiency should avoid this medication as its metabolites may affect methionine metabolism. Patients with peptic ulcers are also advised not to use this medication. Patients with serious renal impairment, particularly those with a creatinine clearance of less than 25 mL/min, should not be administered this medication. Severe liver impairment patients are also prohibited from using this medication. In cases of mild or moderate liver impairment, use this medication with caution and be careful not to exceed a daily dosage of 300 mg. Overdose may result in excessive sweating, dizziness, and facial flushing. Neurological and respiratory adverse reactions such as headaches, cold symptoms, and respiratory distress may occur. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include taste disturbances, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn. Skin reactions such as hives, red spots, and eczema may occur, so caution is advised. Additionally, side effects such as fatigue, dyspepsia, palpitations, facial or generalized edema, pruritus, weakness, drowsiness, and rash have also been reported. Caution should be exercised when using this medication in conjunction with expectorants, as the relief of cough may make the expulsion of phlegm difficult, potentially increasing the risk of bronchial infections. It is preferable for pregnant women, those who may become pregnant, and nursing mothers to avoid this medication as its safety has not been established. This medication should be kept in a safe place out of the reach of children, and transferring it to another container should be avoided as it may cause quality degradation or accidents.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be used in conjunction with cough medicines only after consulting a physician or pharmacist.
