This medication is used as an adjunct to dietary therapy to lower blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed hyperlipidemia, and to increase levels of HDL, the 'good' cholesterol. It can be administered to patients with hypercholesterolemia, including those with familial hypercholesterolemia. Additionally, this medication may be used as an adjunctive treatment in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia when other therapies are ineffective. It should be safely used in conjunction with lipid-regulating medications when there is a high risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia. It is important to identify and treat other causes of cholesterol abnormalities before using the medication, and using it in conjunction with dietary therapy is effective. This medication helps improve cardiovascular health by controlling blood lipid levels.
