View approved original text

This medication helps alleviate excessive mucus production and phlegm issues caused by acute and chronic respiratory diseases. It helps dissolve mucus so that it can be easily expelled from the airways, effectively improving respiratory symptoms. It is thus used to reduce discomfort caused by cough or phlegm and to facilitate easier breathing.

How to take

Adult dose

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients allergic to this drug or any of its ingredients. It should not be administered to patients with liver cirrhosis or cystathionine synthase deficiency, as its metabolites may interfere with methionine metabolism. Patients with peptic ulcers are also advised not to use this medication. Caution should be exercised when administering this drug to patients with severe renal impairment, especially those with a creatinine clearance of less than 25 mL/min. Patients with severe liver impairment should also avoid this medication. Patients with slightly impaired liver function or moderate liver dysfunction should be cautious not to exceed 300 mg per day, and it should be used carefully as adverse reactions may occur. Patients with diabetes or those on a low-calorie diet should take this drug's syrup preparation with caution due to the included ingredients. This drug contains a dye known as Yellow No. 5, so patients allergic to or hypersensitive to this substance should use it with caution. Overdosing may result in symptoms such as excessive sweating, dizziness, and flushing of the face. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as headache, cold symptoms, shortness of breath, taste disorders, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, heartburn, as well as skin symptoms such as rash or hives may occur. Although not definitively linked to this drug, symptoms such as fatigue, dyspepsia, palpitations, facial or generalized edema, itching, weakness, and drowsiness have also been reported. When taken together with expectorants, it may alleviate cough to the extent that mucus expulsion from the bronchi becomes difficult, increasing the risk of bronchial infections and bronchospasm, necessitating caution. It is safest for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and for those who are nursing, to avoid this medication. This drug should be kept out of the reach of children, and transferring it to another container may increase the risk of accidents and compromise the drug's quality.
