Treatment of respiratory and genitourinary infections, gonorrhea, skin and soft tissue infections, and early Lyme disease
Cefuroxime is a broad-spectrum antibiotic effective against various bacteria, used in the treatment of upper respiratory infections (otitis media, sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis), lower respiratory infections (acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia), urogenital infections (pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis), and skin and soft tissue infections (boils, pyoderma, impetigo). It is also effective in treating uncomplicated acute gonococcal urethritis and gonococcal cervicitis, as well as early Lyme disease. It is highly stable against beta-lactamase and acts against resistant strains of ampicillin and amoxicillin, aiding in the treatment of various infections.
Administration: For optimal absorption, take after meals. 3) Patients with renal impairment Cefuroxime is excreted primarily by the kidneys. To compensate for delayed excretion in patients with significantly impaired renal function, reduction of the cefuroxime dosage as follows is recommended. Age 12 years and older: Severe lower respiratory tract infections, pneumonia, severe infections, or suspected infections caused by organisms with reduced susceptibility — administer 500mg per dose, twice daily. Age 12 years and older: Urinary tract infections — administer 250mg per dose, twice daily. Age 12 years and older: Uncomplicated gonorrhea — administer 1g as a single dose.
