Treatment of overactive bladder symptoms (including frequent urination and urinary urgency)
This medication is used to treat symptoms of overactive bladder, such as urge urinary incontinence, frequency, and urgency. These symptoms are characterized by a sudden and strong urge to urinate and frequent urination, which can cause significant discomfort in daily life. This medication helps alleviate excessive contraction of the bladder muscles, improving symptoms and enhancing the quality of life for patients. It is effective for the overall management of overactive bladder symptoms, allowing for a more comfortable daily life.
The usual recommended dose for adults (including elderly patients) is 5mg once daily. If necessary, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 10mg once daily. This medicine may be taken with or without food and should be swallowed whole with water. Dosage adjustment is necessary for the following patients. 1. Patients with renal impairment No dose adjustment is necessary for patients with mild or moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance>30ml/min). In patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance≤30ml/min), administer with caution and do not exceed 5mg once daily. 2. Patients with hepatic impairment No dose adjustment is necessary for patients with mild hepatic impairment. In patients with moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh class B), administer with caution and do not exceed 5mg once daily. 3. Patients taking potent cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) inhibitors For patients taking ketoconazole or another potent CYP3A4 inhibitor (e.g., ritonavir, nelfinavir, itraconazole), limit the maximum daily dose to 5mg.
This medication should not be used in patients with difficulty urinating. Patients with severe gastrointestinal disorders or severe muscle weakness should also not use this medication. Patients with glaucoma, those allergic to this medication, and those undergoing hemodialysis should not take this medication. Patients with severely poor liver or kidney function and those taking certain strong medications should exercise caution. Patients with certain genetic metabolic disorders should also not use this medication. Patients at risk of urinary obstruction or with decreased gastrointestinal motility should be administered this medication cautiously. Patients with moderate to severe impairment of liver or kidney function should limit the maximum daily dosage. Caution is also required for patients taking certain strong medications, those with gastrointestinal disorders, and those with autonomic nervous system diseases. Taking this medication may lead to side effects such as dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, urinary retention, and dizziness. Notably, dry mouth and constipation may occur more frequently at higher doses. In severe cases, significant gastrointestinal side effects such as bowel obstruction may arise, so if symptoms are severe, consultation with a healthcare professional should be sought immediately. This medication may affect heart function, so patients with heart conditions or electrolyte imbalances should exercise caution. Serious allergic reactions, such as angioedema or anaphylaxis, may occur, so if symptoms arise, discontinue the medication and seek treatment immediately. This medication can cause drowsiness, fatigue, and blurred vision, necessitating caution while driving or operating machinery. This medication may have enhanced effects or increased side effects when taken with other anticholinergic medications. It may also reduce the effectiveness of some gastrointestinal motility agents. Taking strong medications that affect the enzymes that metabolize this medication in the liver may increase its blood concentration, requiring dosage adjustments. There is no established safety for use during pregnancy, so caution is advised. Nursing mothers should avoid this medication as it may be excreted in breast milk. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so it should not be used in pediatric patients. In case of overdose, symptoms such as headache, dizziness, drowsiness, and blurred vision may occur, and gastric lavage or medication may be necessary if needed. Long-term use of this medication has not been associated with genotoxicity or an increased risk of tumor development. Before taking this medication, always consult with a healthcare professional and inform them of your health status and any other medications you are taking.
