How to take

Adult dose

Adults: Administer 2 mg of tolterodine L-tartrate orally twice daily. However, based on the patient's response to and tolerability of the medicine, the dose may be reduced from 2 mg to 1 mg per dose, administered twice daily. Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients with certain conditions. For example, patients who have urinary retention, patients with gastrointestinal stasis, patients with uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, patients who are allergic to this medication or its components, patients with severe myasthenia gravis, patients with severe ulcerative colitis, and patients with toxic megacolon should not take this medication. Additionally, it should be administered with caution in some patients. For instance, patients with lower urinary tract obstruction who may have a risk of urinary retention, patients with controlled narrow-angle glaucoma, patients with gastrointestinal obstruction, patients with impaired kidney or liver function, patients taking certain antibiotics, antifungals, or immunosuppressants, patients with autonomic nervous system disorders, patients with hiatal hernia, and patients at risk of decreased gastrointestinal motility require caution. This medication may cause mild side effects such as dry mouth, dyspepsia, and decreased tear production, and various adverse reactions such as bronchitis, allergic reactions, confusion, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, anxiety, constipation, abdominal pain, vomiting, difficulty urinating, chest pain, weight gain, fatigue, visual disturbances, and skin rashes have been reported rarely. In particular, this medication may prolong the QT interval, which is part of the heart's electrical signal, so caution is needed for patients who already have a long QT interval or are taking related medications, patients with electrolyte imbalances, and bradycardia patients. Furthermore, this medication can affect concentration and reaction time, so caution should be taken when driving or operating machinery. The effects may be enhanced when taken with other antimuscarinic medications, and there may be interactions with some medications. Especially when taken with drugs that strongly inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme, blood concentration may increase, so caution is needed. Safety has not been established for pregnant women, and adverse effects on the fetus were observed in animal studies; therefore, it should not be used during pregnancy, and women of childbearing age should use adequate contraception. Nursing mothers are also advised not to take this medication. The safety and efficacy for children have not been established. In case of overdose, symptoms such as visual disturbances, difficulty urinating, and central nervous system abnormalities may occur; in such cases, appropriate treatment should be sought from a medical institution immediately. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children and not transferred to other containers.
