Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with certain medical conditions. For example, it should not be administered to patients with urinary retention symptoms where urination is not efficient, severe gastrointestinal issues, myasthenia gravis, glaucoma with eye troubles, patients allergic to this medication or its components, patients undergoing hemodialysis, patients with severe liver or kidney damage, and patients with specific genetic metabolic disorders. Additionally, caution should be exercised when used in patients at risk for urinary retention or with risks of gastrointestinal obstruction or reduced gastrointestinal motility, as well as in patients with moderately impaired liver or kidney function. Dose adjustments may be required when used in conjunction with certain medications. Common side effects that may occur while using this medication include dry mouth and constipation, and may also lead to dry eyes or blurred vision. Rarely, severe side effects such as gastrointestinal obstruction, severe allergic reactions, angioedema, and anaphylaxis have been reported. This medication may cause issues related to heart rhythm, thus caution is necessary in patients with heart diseases. If symptoms of angioedema or anaphylaxis occur, the medication should be stopped immediately and appropriate treatment sought. Before starting this medication, other causes of urinary issues should be investigated, and appropriate antibiotic treatment is required if a urinary tract infection is present. Caution is advised during driving or operating machinery as symptoms such as drowsiness or blurred vision may occur. Caution is required when using this medication alongside other anticholinergic drugs as the effects may strengthen or increase side effects, and it may reduce the effectiveness of certain gastrointestinal motility drugs. Moreover, dose adjustments may be necessary when used with other medications that affect the enzymes responsible for metabolizing this drug. Safety has not been established for pregnant women, thus use should be avoided when possible, and during lactation, it is recommended not to use this medication as it may pass into breast milk. Use in children is not recommended as safety and effectiveness have not been established. Symptoms may include headache, dizziness, drowsiness, and blurred vision in case of overdose, and medical attention should be sought immediately. Treatment for overdose may include administering charcoal, gastric lavage, and potentially specialized treatment based on symptoms.
