Mucolysis and improvement of sputum expectoration in acute and chronic respiratory diseases
This medication helps to soften mucus in acute and chronic respiratory diseases, making it easier to expel during coughing. It reduces the viscosity of mucus and acts as an expectorant, alleviating discomfort caused by respiratory diseases. Therefore, it is effective in improving respiratory mucus issues.
Adults: Administer 300 mg of erdosteine orally 2~3 times daily. When administered for acute respiratory disease, do not administer continuously for more than 10 days.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. First, individuals allergic to this medication or its ingredients should not take it. Furthermore, patients with cirrhosis or cystathionine synthase deficiency should not use this medication as its metabolites can interfere with methionine metabolism. Patients with peptic ulcers also should not take this medication. In cases of severe kidney impairment, particularly in patients with a creatinine clearance of less than 25 mL/min, this medication should not be used. It is also prudent for patients with severe liver impairment to avoid taking this medication. Mild to moderate liver impairment patients should use this medication cautiously and ensure the daily dosage does not exceed 300 mg. This medication contains a dye called Yellow No. 5, so caution should be exercised if there is allergy or hypersensitivity to this ingredient. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as sweating, dizziness, and flushing may occur. Headaches, cold symptoms, shortness of breath, altered taste, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn may also manifest. Allergic reactions on the skin, such as urticaria, erythema, and eczema, can occur. Post-marketing surveys in the country have reported symptoms such as fatigue, indigestion, gastrointestinal disorders, palpitations, swelling of the face or body, itching, weakness, dizziness, and rash. When taken with expectorants, this medication may hinder mucus expulsion due to relief of coughing, consequently increasing the risk of bronchial infection or causing bronchospasm. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should avoid taking this medication due to insufficient confirmation of its safety.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication requires caution when taken with cough medicines, so consult a doctor or pharmacist.
This medication must be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent exposure to air or light. The storage temperature should ideally be kept between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius.
