How to take

Precautions

This medication helps lower blood sugar; however, there are several precautions to be aware of when taking it. First, this medication can cause a rare but serious side effect called lactic acidosis, which can be life-threatening; symptoms should be reported to a doctor immediately. Second, when used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so blood sugar levels must be monitored closely. Third, this medication should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function, acute kidney issues, severe infections, heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or other severe conditions. Fourth, when undergoing tests with iodinated contrast agents, this medication should be temporarily discontinued before and after the procedure, and kidney function must be confirmed to be normal before resuming. Fifth, it is safer for pregnant women, women of childbearing age, or nursing mothers not to take this medication. Sixth, during the course of taking this medication, attention should be paid to dehydration or fluid loss; symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea should be brought to a doctor's attention. Seventh, this medication can lower vitamin B12 levels so it is advisable to regularly check vitamin B12 levels during prolonged use. Eighth, if symptoms such as fever, pain around the genitals or perineum, swelling, or erythema develop, they may indicate a serious infection, and immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is required. Ninth, elderly patients or those with decreased kidney function should have their kidney function regularly monitored and may require dose adjustments when taking this medication. Finally, it is advisable to avoid alcohol while taking this medication, and if hypoglycemic symptoms or other adverse reactions occur, consult a doctor immediately.
