This medication is used to prevent asthma symptoms and to provide ongoing treatment. It also helps relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. It is effective in improving respiratory issues caused by asthma and allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older take 10 mg of montelukast once daily, taken orally. This medication should be taken once daily; asthma patients should take it in the evening, while allergic rhinitis patients can determine the dosing time based on their condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis take 10 mg once daily, in the evening. This medication is taken 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. While taking this medication, psychic abnormal symptoms may appear, so if symptoms such as agitation, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts occur, consult a doctor immediately. This medication is not for treating acute asthma attacks; separate emergency medications should be used for acute symptoms. Patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders should not take this medication. Side effects such as fatigue, headache, dyspepsia, rash, nasal congestion, and cough may occur. If these abnormal symptoms persist or worsen, inform your doctor. Particularly, children, the elderly, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers should consult a doctor before taking this medication, and it should only be used during pregnancy when absolutely necessary. This medication can be used with other asthma treatments, but it is advisable not to take it simultaneously with aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. There is no specific antidote for overdose; therefore, careful attention should be paid to avoid exceeding the prescribed dose, and if an overdose occurs, contact medical personnel immediately. Store in a place out of reach of children and do not transfer to another container. This medication should be taken consistently, even if symptoms are absent, and any worsening or new symptoms during the course of treatment should be discussed with the attending physician.

Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness, severe allergic reaction, high fever with severe rash, blisters, skin sloughing, oral/eye mucosal pain, severe skin abnormal reactions, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attack, respiratory issues accompanied by cough and fever, respiratory problems, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), excessive lethargy, liver abnormalities (jaundice).
