How to take

Adult dose

Adults: Administer 300mg of erdosteine orally 2~3 times daily. When administered for acute respiratory diseases, do not use continuously for more than 10 days.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. First, individuals who are allergic to this drug or any of its ingredients should not take it. Second, patients with liver cirrhosis or cystathionine synthase deficiency should avoid this medication as its metabolites may affect the metabolism of methionine in their bodies. Third, patients with peptic ulcers should also refrain from using this medication. Fourth, patients with severe renal impairment or severe liver disease should also avoid this drug. Additionally, it should be administered cautiously in some patients. Patients with mild to moderate liver dysfunction should limit the dosage to not exceed 300 mg per day, and they should be monitored for adverse reactions. This medication contains Yellow No. 5, and patients with a history of allergy or hypersensitivity to this dye should use it with caution. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as sweating, dizziness, and facial flushing may occur. Neurological and respiratory symptoms, like headache, cold symptoms, and difficulty breathing, have been reported, along with gastrointestinal symptoms such as altered taste, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn. Allergic reactions such as urticaria, erythema, and eczema may also appear on the skin. Post-marketing surveillance has reported symptoms like fatigue, indigestion, palpitations, facial or generalized swelling, itching, weakness, drowsiness, and rash, but a direct correlation with this medication is not confirmed. As this drug is an expectorant, combining it with other cough medications may lead to difficulty in expelling mucus due to cough suppression, increasing the risk of bronchial infection, and may also lead to bronchospasm, thus requiring particularly careful monitoring. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised not to use this medication as its safety has not been adequately established. Animal studies have shown no harm to fetal or postnatal development, but safety in humans has not been confirmed.
