Improvement of sputum expectoration in acute and chronic respiratory diseases
This medication helps to soften mucus in acute and chronic respiratory diseases, making it easier to expectorate phlegm when coughing. It thus lowers the viscosity of mucus in the respiratory tract, facilitating easier breathing and effectively improving respiratory symptoms. It is mainly used for acute and chronic respiratory diseases.
Adults: Administer 300 mg of erdosteine orally 2~3 times daily. When administered for acute respiratory disease, do not use continuously for more than 10 days.
This medication should not be used by individuals who have an allergic reaction to this drug or its components. Patients with liver cirrhosis and certain enzyme deficiencies should avoid taking this medication as its metabolites may affect methionine metabolism in the body. Patients suffering from peptic ulcers should also be cautious, as symptoms may worsen with this drug. It is safest not to administer this medication to patients with severely impaired kidney function or significantly reduced liver function. Patients with mild to moderate liver dysfunction should take this medication carefully, ensuring they do not exceed 300mg per day. Patients with diabetes or those on a low-calorie diet should be especially careful when taking the syrup form of this drug. This drug contains Yellow No. 5 dye, so individuals who have allergies or have experienced hypersensitivity reactions to this component should proceed with caution. In case of overdose, symptoms such as sweating, dizziness, and flushing of the face may appear, so it is important to adhere to the prescribed dosage. Neurological and respiratory symptoms such as headaches, cold-like symptoms, and shortness of breath may occur. Gastrointestinal effects may include taste disturbances, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, heartburn, etc. Skin reactions may include urticaria, erythema, and eczema. Post-marketing studies in Korea have reported various adverse reactions such as fatigue, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, and rash, although a direct correlation with this medication has not been confirmed. Caution is particularly needed when taking this medication along with other expectorants, as it may hinder the expulsion of phlegm from the bronchi, increasing the risk of bronchial infection or bronchospasm. Pregnant or potentially pregnant women, as well as nursing mothers, should avoid taking this medication as its safety has not been established. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container may lead to accidents or degrade the quality of the drug, so it is safest to store it in the original container.
