Relief of symptoms of gastric ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease, and treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection.
This medication is used to treat gastrointestinal ulcers such as gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It also relieves symptoms of erosive and ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease and can be used for long-term maintenance therapy for these conditions. For patients with gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori, it enhances therapeutic effects when used in combination with antibiotics. It is also helpful in treating conditions of excessive gastric acid secretion, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Overall, it is used to improve the health of the stomach and esophagus and facilitate recovery from related diseases.
Gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer: Administer 10 mg orally once a day. Depending on the symptoms, 20 mg can be administered orally once a day. Generally, treatment is administered for up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and up to 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg or 20 mg orally once a day for 4 to 8 weeks. If symptoms do not improve after 8 weeks of treatment, an additional dosage of 10 mg or 20 mg can be administered orally for another 8 weeks.
This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to certain ingredients or a history of hypersensitivity reactions to benzimidazole derivatives. Patients with allergies to penicillin-based antibiotics or macrolide antibiotics should also exercise caution. In particular, it is crucial to check for these allergies when used in combination therapy for eradicating Helicobacter pylori. Additionally, it should not be combined with certain cardiac-related medications or antivirals, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication. Careful administration is required for patients with impaired liver function, the elderly, and those with a history of drug allergies. During the use of this medication, hypersensitivity reactions such as rash, urticaria, and itching may occur, and if such symptoms develop, promptly stop taking it. Regular blood tests are necessary as red or white blood cell counts may change. Liver function tests should also be conducted regularly, and if abnormalities are discovered, administration should be discontinued. Cardiac-related side effects may occur infrequently, so patients with a history of heart disease should be more vigilant. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, nausea, and in severe cases, serious issues such as gastrointestinal bleeding or pancreatitis may arise. Neuropsychiatric symptoms such as headache, insomnia, dizziness, and depression have been reported, and in rare cases, confusion or seizures may also be present. Respiratory problems such as coughing, shortness of breath, and asthma exacerbation may arise, so caution is required for patients with respiratory diseases. Musculoskeletal issues such as muscle pain or joint pain have also been reported. Dermatological side effects may include rash, itching, hair loss, and in severe cases, serious skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Eye-related issues may present as visual disturbances, cataracts, or glaucoma. Urinary symptoms may include dysuria, hematuria, and kidney problems, so notify a hospital if any unusual symptoms appear. This medication strongly inhibits gastric acid secretion, which may increase the risk of osteoporosis and fractures with long-term use, so caution is necessary during prolonged treatment. Furthermore, hypomagnesemia may occur; therefore, patients on long-term treatment or those using certain medications in combination should regularly check their magnesium levels. There may be a slight increase in the risk of gastrointestinal bacterial infections when taking this medication, so if diarrhea persists, consult with healthcare professionals immediately. Caution is also needed as drowsiness can occur when driving or operating machinery. There are potential interactions with other medications, especially when taken with antibiotics, antivirals, or anticoagulants, so consult with the prescribing doctor or pharmacist. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication, and the elderly should be cautious as adverse reactions may occur due to reduced liver function. Safety in children has not been established, so it is advisable not to use this in pediatric patients. There is no specific antidote for overdose, so appropriate treatment based on symptoms should be sought, and this medication should be swallowed whole without chewing or crushing. Keep out of reach of children and do not transfer to other containers. Report any unusual symptoms that occur during treatment to healthcare professionals immediately.
This medication may be sensitive to air or moisture, so it must be stored in a sealed container. It is advisable to maintain a storage temperature between 1°C and 30°C at room temperature. This way, the effectiveness of the medication can be securely preserved.
