Cefuroxime is a broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic effective against aerobic Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, anaerobic strains, and some spirochetes. It is stable against beta-lactamase and is effective against strains resistant to ampicillin and amoxicillin. It is used for the treatment of upper respiratory infections such as otitis media, sinusitis, tonsillitis, and pharyngitis, as well as lower respiratory infections, including acute and chronic bronchitis and pneumonia. It is also used for urinary tract infections such as pyelonephritis, cystitis, and urethritis, as well as skin and soft tissue infections like furunculosis, impetigo, and paronychia. In the case of gonorrhea, it is used for uncomplicated acute gonococcal urethritis and gonococcal cervicitis, and it is also helpful in the treatment of early Lyme disease. Thus, cefuroxime is widely used in the treatment of various infections, improving patients' infection symptoms.
