This medicine is used for the treatment of gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, erosive and ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is effective for symptom relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease as well as long-term maintenance therapy for it. It can also help treat gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori in combination with antibiotics. It is applicable for conditions of excessive gastric acid secretion such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and overall improves the health of the stomach and esophagus.

How to take

Adult dose

Gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer: 10 mg orally once a day. Depending on the symptoms, 20 mg may be taken orally once a day. Treatment lasts 8 weeks for gastric ulcer and 6 weeks for duodenal ulcer. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: 10 mg or 20 mg orally once a day for 4 to 8 weeks. If symptoms persist after 8 weeks, an additional 8-week treatment of 10 mg or 20 mg may be given.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with certain allergic reactions or those taking specific antibiotics and other drugs. Hives, severe swelling, chest tightness, breathing difficulty, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in the oral/eye mucosa, systemic allergic reaction (hypotension, difficulty breathing, facial swelling, etc.), abnormal lung sounds, acute interstitial nephritis, jaundice, hepatic encephalopathy, sudden and severe headache, confusion, disorientation, visual disturbances, paralysis, seizures, severe swelling with elevated blood pressure, hematuria, decreased platelets.
