This drug is primarily used as an adjunctive treatment in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia who are not adequately controlled by diet and exercise. It is also used as an adjunctive therapy for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, as it lowers total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia, thereby slowing the progression of atherosclerosis. In pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, it may be used alongside dietary measures if specific criteria are met. It is also used as an adjunct to diet in patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and arterial revascularization in middle-aged patients with elevated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels and additional cardiovascular risk factors. This drug is effectively used for the treatment and prevention of various conditions associated with hyperlipidemia.
