View approved original text

This medication is used to treat chronic hyperuricemia, commonly seen in patients with gout. Hyperuricemia is a condition where the uric acid level in the blood is abnormally high, which can cause joint pain and inflammation. This drug lowers uric acid levels, reducing the frequency and intensity of gout attacks, and improves gout symptoms in the long term. It may also help protect kidney function, contributing to overall health maintenance. Therefore, it is effective in the treatment of chronic hyperuricemia.

Patients allergic to this drug's active ingredient or excipients, those taking certain medications (mercaptopurine, azathioprine), and patients with genetic issues like lactose intolerance or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not use this drug. Use with caution in patients with a history of liver disease, changes in thyroid function, ischemic heart disease or heart failure, those taking theophylline, organ transplant recipients, patients with significant cardiovascular disease history, and those with very high uric acid production. This medication can cause various side effects including liver function abnormalities, diarrhea, headache, rash, fatigue, muscle pain, dizziness, etc., so consult a doctor immediately if these symptoms occur. Do not start this medication during an acute gout attack; instead, it should be administered after the attack has subsided.
