This medication is used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men. Osteoporosis is a condition characterized by decreased bone density, increasing the risk of fractures; this medication helps strengthen bones to prevent fractures. Therefore, it is effective for the treatment of osteoporosis in both postmenopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

1 tablet (70 mg/2800 IU or 70 mg/5600 IU) once weekly should be taken in the morning, at least 30 minutes before consuming any food, beverages, or other medications, with a sufficient amount of water. It is important to remain upright for at least 30 minutes after taking the medication and not to lie down until after the first meal. Two tablets should not be taken on the same day.

Child dose

Safety and efficacy for children and adolescents (under 18 years) have not been established.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the upper gastrointestinal mucosa and cause esophageal adverse reactions such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, and esophageal erosions. Sometimes this may worsen into esophageal obstruction or perforation, so if symptoms like dysphagia, odynophagia, pain behind the sternum, or heartburn occur, stop taking the medication and consult a doctor. When taking, it should be taken with a sufficient amount of water, and one should not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. Patients with esophageal motility disorders or who cannot sit or stand upright for at least 30 minutes, those hypersensitive to the ingredients, patients with hypocalcemia, or those with certain genetic metabolic disorders should not take this medication. Those taking this medication should be cautious if they have gastrointestinal diseases, as gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, indigestion, constipation, and diarrhea may occur. Symptoms like musculoskeletal pain or cramps, headache, dizziness, and taste disturbances have also been reported. Before taking the medication, read the product leaflet carefully and take it according to a doctor's instructions, and it is advisable to take supplements if calcium intake is insufficient. This medication may interact with certain drugs, so caution is advised when taking it with calcium supplements or antacids, aspirin, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It should be administered cautiously in pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children, and is not recommended for patients with severely impaired kidney function. In case of overdose, hypocalcemia and gastrointestinal irritation symptoms may occur, so immediate consultation with medical personnel is required, and one should avoid inducing vomiting and maintain an upright position. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is safe not to transfer it to another container.
