This medication is used to treat osteoporosis that occurs in postmenopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

Take one tablet (70 mg/2800 IU or 70 mg/5600 IU) of this medication once weekly in the morning with sufficient water at least 30 minutes before eating food, drinking, or taking other medications. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it, and remain standing until the first food intake. If a dose is missed, take one tablet the next morning and continue with the prescribed dosing schedule.

Child dose

The safety and efficacy in children and adolescents (under 18 years of age) have not been established.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the stomach and esophageal mucosa; therefore, it should be taken with sufficient water, and lying down should be avoided for at least 30 minutes after taking it. Symptoms such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, and esophagitis may occur. If symptoms are severe, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Patients with esophageal strictures or delayed esophageal emptying should not take this medication, nor should it be given to individuals with known allergies to any drug component. Patients with hypocalcemia must receive treatment prior to taking this medication and should periodically monitor serum calcium levels during treatment. This medication is used for the treatment of osteoporosis, and caution is needed as rare cases of microfractures may occur in the bone with prolonged use. It should be taken in the morning with sufficient water before eating or taking other medications. Taking it with orange juice or coffee may reduce drug absorption. Calcium supplements or antacids should be taken at least 30 minutes apart from this medication, and co-administration with aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may increase gastrointestinal side effects. Consult a physician before taking this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and it should not be used in children. If experiencing severe pain in bones, joints, or muscles while taking this medication, consult a physician, and report any unusual symptoms such as gastrointestinal bleeding, rash, or dizziness immediately.

Serious side effects

Hives, severe swelling (edema), cold sweat, pallor, severe allergic reactions, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, oral/ocular mucosal pain, severe skin adverse reactions, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, asthma attacks, respiratory issues accompanied by cough and fever, esophageal strictures, esophageal obstruction, esophageal perforation, breathing difficulties, liver abnormalities (jaundice), sudden and severe headache, lightning headache, seizures, altered consciousness, visual issues.

Mild side effects

Abdominal pain, nausea, dyspepsia, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, acid reflux, esophageal ulcers, vomiting, difficulty swallowing, abdominal distension, gastritis, musculoskeletal (bone, muscle, or joint) pain, muscle cramps, headache, dizziness, altered taste, rash, itching, hair loss, nasal pharyngitis, vascular edema, symptoms of hypocalcemia, peripheral edema, localized osteonecrosis of the jaw, joint swelling, low-energy fractures of the femoral neck and other bones, dizziness and vertigo, and grape-like.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to keep air and moisture out, and it is recommended to store it at room temperature between 1°C and 30°C. Additionally, it should be kept in a dark place to ensure the medication's efficacy is maintained.
