View approved original text

This medication is used by patients with type 2 diabetes to improve their blood sugar control. The combination of sitagliptin and metformin acts together to effectively lower blood sugar that is difficult to control with diet and exercise alone. This helps reduce the risk of complications and assists in maintaining healthy blood sugar levels. Patients should strictly adhere to their doctor's guidance and maintain diet and exercise alongside medication.

Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for diabetes treatment. Firstly, serious allergic reactions may occur while taking this medication, so if symptoms such as rash, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck appear, you should immediately stop taking the medication and inform your healthcare provider. Additionally, rare side effects such as pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) have been reported, so if sudden abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever occurs, consult your doctor immediately. Metformin, included in this medication, can cause a rare but fatal metabolic condition known as lactic acidosis, so it should not be used in cases of severe dehydration, infections, heart disease, liver disease, or impaired kidney function. Particularly, if kidney function is moderately impaired or you are undergoing tests involving iodine contrast agents, you should discontinue this medication and restart it only after kidney function has recovered. This medication should not be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women, type 1 diabetes patients, or patients with acute metabolic acidosis. Be cautious as hypoglycemia may occur due to irregular eating habits, excessive exercise, or interactions with other medications, and the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used in combination with insulin or sulfonylureas. Regular kidney function and blood tests should be conducted while on this medication, as vitamin B12 deficiency may occur and needs monitoring. If you are scheduled for surgery or have severe infections or trauma, temporarily discontinue use and resume after stabilization. Finally, alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, so excessive drinking should be avoided during treatment, and any discomfort experienced should be consulted with your healthcare provider.
