(Allergic rhinitis, urticaria) symptom relief
This medication is used to relieve symptoms of seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis. It is also effective in reducing symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria. Additionally, it is used in combination with hydrocortisone topical agents for the treatment of dermatitis and eczema with itching in adults and children over 6 years old. This drug helps improve a variety of allergy and skin symptoms.
For adults and children aged 6 years and older: Administer 5mg (10mL as a liquid) orally once a day irrespective of meals. Adults with renal impairment should adjust their dosage based on renal function (estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR)). - Normal renal function (≥ 90 mL/min): 5mg once daily. - Mild renal impairment (60 -< 90 mL/min): 5mg once daily. - Moderate
For children aged 2 years and older but under 6 years: Administer 1.25mg (2.5mL as a liquid) orally twice a day. For children aged 1 year and older but under 2 years: Administer 1.25mg (2.5mL as a liquid) orally once a day.
This medication should not be administered to patients who have allergic reactions to specific ingredients or have a history of hypersensitivity to hydroxizine or piperazine derivatives. Patients with end-stage renal disease or those undergoing dialysis should not use this medication for safety reasons. It is advised not to use this medication in infants under 1 year of age, and for children under 6 years, administration in liquid form is recommended instead of tablets. The liquid formulation contains maltitol, so patients with congenital fructose intolerance should not use this medication. Patients with impaired kidney or liver function, as well as the elderly, should use this medication with caution as it may lead to increased blood concentration. This medication can cause central nervous system symptoms such as drowsiness, headache, dizziness, and fatigue; therefore, caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may occur; rarely, cardiac arrhythmias or hematological adverse reactions may also occur. Allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, and swelling can manifest; if any unusual symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a physician is recommended. Due to its effect on the central nervous system, it is advisable to avoid taking this medication with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants. Particular caution is needed when administering this medication to patients with urinary retention risks, such as those with prostatic hyperplasia. Patients with epilepsy or at risk of seizures should use this medication carefully as symptoms may worsen following use. Pregnant women should use this medication cautiously under a doctor's guidance due to limited safety data. Breastfeeding women should be aware that this medication may be excreted in breast milk, which could lead to adverse reactions in infants. Children and the elderly should have their dosages adjusted based on kidney function, and any adverse reactions should be immediately reported to medical personnel. It is good practice to stop taking this medication before allergy testing, and in the event of an overdose, as there is no specific antidote, appropriate treatment should be sought based on symptoms.
