This medication helps prevent asthma and supports ongoing treatment. It is also effective in alleviating the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. It is used for these two main conditions.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older should take Montelukast 10 mg orally once daily. This medication should be administered 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet, 1 packet, or 1 film at night, once daily. The 10 mg orally disintegrating film should be placed on the tongue and allowed to dissolve without water, taken once daily.

Child dose

Precautions

This medicine should not be used by patients allergic to this medication or any of its components. Additionally, it contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic issues should not use it. This medication is not intended for use during acute asthma attacks, and patients must have emergency medications on hand for acute symptoms. Inhaled corticosteroids should not be suddenly discontinued or replaced with this medication; instead, they should be adjusted gradually under a physician's guidance. Various adverse reactions such as dizziness, headache, rash, and dyspepsia may occur during treatment, so if any symptoms arise, it is important to consult a physician. Especially, neuropsychiatric symptoms or behavioral changes may occur, so patients or caregivers should closely observe such changes. If bronchospasm occurs during exercise, this medication should not be used alone; inhaled beta-agonists should continue to be used. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should be cautious not to take these medications concurrently with this medication. This medication rarely may lead to severe side effects such as systemic eosinophilia and vasculitis; if related symptoms appear, immediate medical attention should be sought. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should only use this medication after consulting a physician and must use it only when necessary. Children and the elderly can use this medication as well, but dosage adjustments and caution according to age are necessary. In case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, so general supportive care and clinical monitoring are important. This medication is sensitive to light, so it should be taken immediately after opening when preparing for administration, and stored out of reach of children. Continuously take this medication as directed by your physician, and if symptoms worsen or new symptoms appear, inform medical personnel immediately.
