Improvement of tear production suppressed by ocular inflammation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca
This medication is used to improve inflammation of the eye associated with dry corneal conjunctivitis by increasing tear secretion in patients with suppressed tear production.
Instill 1 drop of this drug into each eye twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart. Before use, invert the container several times to mix until the suspension is uniformly opaque and white. If this drug is used with artificial tears, administer them 15 minutes apart. Discard any remaining solution and the container after instillation.
This medication should be used with caution in patients with a history of herpes keratitis, as sufficient studies have not been conducted. Increased tear production has not been observed in patients taking topical anti-inflammatory agents or using punctal plugs. Patients with active eye infections or allergies or suspected allergies to the components of this medication should not use it. During use, burning in the eyes may commonly occur, and various ocular adverse reactions, such as conjunctival congestion, discharge, eye pain, foreign body sensation, itching, and vision disturbances, have been reported. Rarely, serious allergic reactions such as eye swelling, severe angioedema, facial and tongue swelling, throat swelling, and difficulty breathing may occur. Care should be taken to prevent the container from directly touching the eye to avoid injury to the eye. Vision may temporarily blur after instillation; it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until vision returns to normal. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been established; it should only be used cautiously when necessary, and caution is also needed during breastfeeding. For children under the age of 16, its safety and efficacy have not been adequately established, and its use is not recommended. Any opened solution should be used only once and any remaining medication should be discarded, ensuring cleanliness to prevent the container tip from coming into contact with the eye or other surfaces. When wearing contact lenses, lenses should be removed before instillation, and can be reinserted after at least 15 minutes. Store this medication out of reach of children, and do not use expired medication; it should be discarded.
