This medication is primarily used as an adjunct to diet for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed hyperlipidemia who are not adequately controlled by diet and exercise alone. It is also applied as an adjunct with other lipid-lowering therapies for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This drug helps lower cholesterol levels and delays the progression of atherosclerosis. It is particularly used in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia and effectively reduces total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. Additionally, it is utilized as an adjunct to diet in patients with dysbetalipoproteinemia and helps lower the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and revascularization in patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease. It is effectively used in various forms of hyperlipidemia and in reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
