This medication helps to prevent asthma and provides continuous treatment for asthma symptoms. It is also used to alleviate symptoms caused by seasonal and chronic allergic rhinitis. Therefore, it is useful for the effective management of respiratory-related allergic diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily, with asthma patients taking it in the evening. The dosing time for allergic rhinitis patients is determined according to the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take one tablet, one pack, or one piece in the evening once daily. Adults and adolescents aged 15 and over should take 10 mg of montelukast orally once a day.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by patients with a genetic disorder called phenylketonuria, as the artificial sweetener aspartame in this medication is broken down into phenylalanine in the body. Additionally, this medication contains lactose, so patients with genetic conditions such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. This medication is not intended for the treatment of acute asthma attacks; therefore, appropriate emergency medication should be used when asthma suddenly worsens. During use, psychiatric symptoms such as anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or behavioral changes may occur, so consult a doctor if these symptoms arise. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid using such medications while taking this drug. While taking this medication, the dosage of inhaled corticosteroids should be gradually reduced according to the doctor's instructions, and abrupt switching to other medications should not occur. This medication is generally safe for both children and adults, but caution is needed as side effects such as fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, rash, and cough may occur. If pregnant or breastfeeding, consultation with a doctor before taking this medication is essential, and it should only be used if clearly necessary. This medication is sensitive to light, so do not open the package until use, and it is advisable to take it immediately when needed. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and treatment should be symptomatic and according to the doctor’s instructions. Keep out of reach of children, and be careful not to change containers as this may affect quality.
