This medication is effective against bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis. It is particularly used to treat recurrent or persistent acute otitis media and acute sinusitis in children. It is recommended when there has been a recent antibiotic treatment for the condition in the past three months, in children under two years old, or in those attending daycare. This medication helps alleviate symptoms of otitis media and sinusitis in children.

How to take

Adult dose

There is no experience of using this medication in adults. This medication is administered early in meals to minimize the possibility of gastrointestinal disorders. Administering this medication early in meals increases the absorption of clavulanate potassium.

Child dose

For pediatric patients over 3 months: the dosage based on amoxicillin content (600 mg/5 mL) is 90 mg/kg/day divided into intervals of 12 hours. For acute otitis media, it should be taken for 10 days; for acute sinusitis, it should be taken for 7 days.

Precautions

This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which converts into phenylalanine in the body, so it should not be used in patients with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria. Rarely, abnormalities in liver function, skin rashes, or allergic reactions may occur, so if any unusual symptoms are observed, it is essential to stop the medication immediately and consult a physician. Contact dermatitis, diarrhea, vomiting, candidiasis, rash, dyspepsia, stomatitis, gastritis, glossitis, nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, constipation, colonic pain, gastric acid increase, flatulence, dry mouth, candidiasis, antibiotic-associated colitis, hepatitis, elevations in AST/ALT/ALP/LDH/serum bilirubin, itching, erythema multiforme, serum sickness-like syndrome, hypersensitivity vasculitis, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, bronchospasm, blood.
