Effect on blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes and prevention of cardiovascular events
This medication is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help adult patients with type 2 diabetes who are suitable for combination therapy with Dapagliflozin and Metformin in controlling blood sugar levels. Particularly, in patients whose blood sugar is not well controlled and who have cardiovascular disease or risk factors, it is advisable to refer to expert guidelines on how Dapagliflozin affects cardiovascular events. Overall, this medication effectively improves blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
This medication is generally administered once daily with the evening meal. The maximum dosage is 10 mg of Dapagliflozin / 2000 mg of extended-release Metformin once daily, given as 2 tablets of 5 mg / 1000 mg. In cases without prior experience of diabetes medication, the initial regimen is to take one tablet of 5 mg / 500 mg or 10 mg / 500 mg once daily. To reduce gastrointestinal side effects of Metformin, the dosage should be titrated.

Pregnant or breastfeeding women, as well as patients with certain genetic disorders, should not use this medication. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function should have their kidney function regularly tested while using this medication, and their fluid status should be closely monitored. Also, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur, so dosage adjustment may be necessary when used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas.
