Precautions

This medication consists of two active ingredients: sitagliptin and metformin. Sitagliptin can rarely cause serious allergic reactions, which may include skin rash or swelling, and in severe cases, can lead to life-threatening anaphylactic reactions. Additionally, sitagliptin may cause pancreatitis, a condition characterized by inflammation of the pancreas, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain or vomiting appear during treatment, consult a doctor immediately. Metformin can rarely cause lactic acidosis, a serious metabolic disorder, with symptoms including muscle pain, difficulty breathing, and weakness, which can be life-threatening if treatment is delayed. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderate or severe renal impairment, serious infections or heart failure, liver dysfunction, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Furthermore, in cases of acute renal function decline, dehydration, severe trauma, or surrounding surgical procedures, the use of this medication should be temporarily suspended. During the course of treatment, regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests is essential, as vitamin B12 deficiency may occur; periodic checks for vitamin levels are important. Hypoglycemic symptoms may appear during treatment, hence blood sugar levels should be closely monitored, especially when taken with other glycemic agents. Increased physical activity or irregular dietary intake can heighten the risk of hypoglycemia, so caution is advised. Alcohol can increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so it should be avoided. If blistering skin conditions or severe joint pain occur, inform a healthcare professional immediately and stop medication. The safety and efficacy of this drug have not been established in children under the age of 18, so its use is not recommended in this population. Elderly patients are prone to decreased kidney function, hence kidney function should be thoroughly checked before and during treatment, adjusting doses as necessary. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention to receive appropriate care; certain components can be removed by hemodialysis.
