Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin, and is used in the treatment of diabetes. First, serious allergic reactions may occur during the use of this medication; if symptoms such as rash, hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Additionally, acute pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas, may rarely occur, so if sudden abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever occurs, immediate medical attention is required. The metformin component can rarely cause lactic acidosis, a serious metabolic disorder, which may present with symptoms such as muscle pain, difficulty breathing, fatigue, abdominal pain, or irregular heartbeat; if any of these symptoms occur, seek treatment immediately. This medication should not be used in patients with severely decreased kidney function, severe infections, dehydration, congestive heart failure, or anyone in unstable condition such as acute myocardial infarction. Particularly, if a radiological examination using iodinated contrast agents is planned, discontinue this medication 48 hours before the examination, and resume only after confirming that kidney function is normal. Women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding should not take this medication, and safety and efficacy in children under 18 years of age have not been established. Regular kidney function and blood tests should be carried out while on this medication, and periodic monitoring of vitamin B12 levels is also recommended. There is an increased risk of hypoglycemia if food intake is irregular or insufficient, vigorous exercise is undertaken, or if this medication is combined with other glycemic agents. If undergoing surgery, discontinue this medication 48 hours before the procedure and resume only after proper recovery of oral intake and confirmation of normal kidney function afterward. It is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication, as alcohol may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. If skin blisters or severe joint pain occur while using this medication, inform your physician immediately, who may need to discontinue treatment. This medication may interact with other drugs, so inform your physician or pharmacist about any other medications being taken. Finally, if any unusual symptoms arise while taking this medication, it is important to immediately consult an expert for appropriate measures.
