This medicine helps prevent asthma and consistently treat its symptoms. It is also used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents above 15 years should take 10 mg of Montelukast orally once daily. The 10 mg orally disintegrating film should be placed on the tongue to dissolve without water, taken once daily. This medication should be taken once a day; however, asthma patients should take it in the evening, while allergy patients should adjust the dosing time based on their condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet or 1 packet once daily.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. While taking this medication, neuropsychiatric symptoms may occur, so if any unusual behaviors such as agitation, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, sleep disturbances, or suicidal thoughts arise, you should immediately inform a doctor. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, so individuals with a genetic disorder known as phenylketonuria should avoid taking it. Patients with an allergy to this medication or who have had hypersensitivity reactions should not take it. Be cautious as side effects such as fatigue, headache, dyspepsia, cough, and rash may occur after taking this medication. During an acute asthma attack, since this medication does not treat bronchospasm, you should always carry an emergency inhaler. Do not use this medication alone for exercise-induced asthma symptoms; use a bronchodilator as directed by your doctor. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid these medications while taking this medication. During pregnancy, use this medication only when necessary, and be cautious during breastfeeding as well. Children and elderly patients can also use it, but strict adherence to the dosage and administration is necessary, especially in infants under 6 months old, for whom safety has not been established. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so appropriate treatment should be sought according to the symptoms, and medical advice should be followed. Store this medication out of reach of children and it is best not to transfer it to another container. This medication should be taken consistently even when asthma symptoms are not present, and if symptoms worsen or unusual symptoms occur, consultation with a doctor is essential.
