This medication is generally taken twice daily with food, and the dosage is gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal adverse reactions caused by metformin. 1. For patients who have not been treated with metformin: The initial dose is 50/500 mg taken twice daily, 1 tablet per dose, and can be increased to 50/1000 mg taken twice daily, 1 tablet per dose. 2. This medication is used to treat diabetes, and there are several precautions to be aware of while taking it. First, this medication can rarely cause serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as hives, rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, discontinue use immediately and consult with a healthcare professional. Additionally, inflammation of the pancreas, known as pancreatitis, may occur, so if symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite appear, inform a doctor immediately. This medication should not be administered to patients with moderate or severe renal impairment, severe infections, dehydration, heart failure, and it should be temporarily discontinued around the time of surgery. While taking this medication, regular kidney function tests should be performed, and if there is a sudden deterioration in kidney function or symptoms of dehydration, inform a healthcare professional immediately and discontinue the medication. Also, this medication can cause a rare complication called lactic acidosis, which may accompany symptoms such as muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, and altered consciousness, so visit a hospital immediately if such symptoms occur. It is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption during treatment, particularly acute or chronic excessive drinking, as it is dangerous. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, so be cautious of hypoglycemic symptoms if meals are skipped or eaten irregularly, during vigorous exercise, or when taken alongside other hypoglycemic agents. It is not to be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, nursing mothers, or children under the age of 18. If blisters appear on the skin or severe joint pain occurs during treatment, consult a physician immediately. Finally, this medication may interact with other drugs, so if you are taking other medications, be sure to inform your healthcare provider, especially when intaking drugs that may affect kidney function.
