This medication is used to enhance blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is typically taken twice daily with food, gradually increasing the dose to reduce gastrointestinal adverse reactions caused by metformin. 1. For patients not previously treated with metformin: The initial dose is 50/500 mg of this medication taken twice daily, 1 tablet each time, which can be increased to 50/1000 mg taken twice daily, 1 tablet each time if necessary. 2. For patients currently being treated with metformin

Precautions

This medication is used to treat diabetes and helps to control blood sugar levels. While taking this medication, severe allergic reactions may occur; therefore, if symptoms such as skin rash or breathing difficulties arise, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Serious side effects may include acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas; if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite occur, inform healthcare professionals immediately. Patients with severely impaired kidney function or serious infections or dehydration should not take this medication. Additionally, this medication should be discontinued prior to tests using radiographic contrast agents and resumed only after confirming normal kidney function post-procedure. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant and nursing mothers should not take this medication. This medication can cause low blood sugar; therefore, extra caution is required if meals are skipped or taken irregularly, during intense exercise, or when taking other hypoglycemic agents. Regular kidney function and blood tests should be conducted during treatment, and monitoring of vitamin B12 levels is recommended. Alcohol can increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so it should be avoided during treatment. In case of surgery, discontinue this medication 48 hours prior and resume only after confirming normal recovery of kidney function. If symptoms such as sudden weakness, muscle pain, breathing difficulties, or abdominal pain arise during use, consult healthcare professionals immediately. Additionally, this medication may cause joint pain or skin conditions in some patients; if abnormal symptoms persist, inform a doctor. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established; therefore, it is recommended that individuals under 18 years of age do not use this medication. Elderly patients may have diminished kidney function; thus, dose adjustments and regular monitoring are necessary. In the event of an overdose, seek medical attention immediately, as this medication can be partially removed by blood dialysis.
