For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer either 10 mg or 20 mg orally once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If no improvement is observed after 8 weeks of treatment, an additional 8 weeks may be required.

This medicine is used for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers. It also alleviates the symptoms of erosive and ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease and is used for long-term maintenance therapy. In patients with gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori, it is used in conjunction with antibiotics to enhance the therapeutic effect. It is also helpful in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. This medication effectively improves various gastrointestinal diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: Administer 10 mg of rabeprazole sodium orally once daily for adults. Depending on symptoms, 20 mg may be administered orally once daily. Generally, gastric ulcers are treated for up to 8 weeks, and duodenal ulcers for 6 weeks. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer either 10 mg or 20 mg orally once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If no improvement is observed after 8 weeks of treatment, an additional 8 weeks may be required.

Precautions

This medicine should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to certain ingredients or benzimidazole derivatives. Patients allergic to penicillin antibiotics or macrolide antibiotics should also exercise caution, especially during combination therapy for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori. It is safest not to use this medicine in patients taking certain heart-related medications, those receiving atazanavir or rilpivirine, pregnant or breastfeeding women. Patients with impaired liver function or the elderly should use this medicine cautiously, and those with a history of allergies should also be careful. If skin rash, hives, or itching develop while taking this medicine, discontinue use immediately. Regular blood tests are recommended as changes in red blood cell or white blood cell counts may occur. Liver function tests are also necessary, and if symptoms of hepatitis or jaundice appear, medication should be discontinued immediately. Symptoms related to heart problems, gastrointestinal issues, central nervous system symptoms, or respiratory issues may arise; if these symptoms occur, consult a healthcare professional. Long-term use may increase the risk of osteoporosis and fractures, so caution is advised. Hypomagnesemia can occur rarely, so regularly check magnesium levels if taken for extended periods or in conjunction with certain medications. This medicine may increase the risk of bacterial infection in the gastrointestinal tract by suppressing gastric acid secretion, so inform a healthcare professional if diarrhea persists. Be cautious while driving or operating machinery due to the risk of accidents from drowsiness. It may interact with other medications, so inform your healthcare provider if you are taking any other medicines. It should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and the elderly should administer it cautiously due to potential adverse reactions from impaired liver function. Safety in children has not been established, so it is advised not to use it in children. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and appropriate treatment and supportive care based on symptoms are necessary. This medicine should be swallowed whole without chewing or crushing, and kept out of reach of children. Long-term use of this medicine may result in impaired absorption of vitamin B12, so periodic testing is necessary. Symptoms of autoimmune diseases such as lupus erythematosus may appear on the skin or systemically, so if any unusual symptoms occur, stop taking it immediately and consult a specialist. It may be necessary to temporarily discontinue this medicine before tests, and if kidney disease, such as interstitial nephritis, is suspected, stop taking it immediately.

  • Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, pallor, cold sweat → severe allergic reaction.
  • Fulminant hepatitis, liver dysfunction, jaundice, yellowing of the skin → liver abnormalities (jaundice).
  • Severe headache, seizures, confusion of consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis → severe neurological symptoms.
  • Severe swelling accompanied by increased blood pressure, marked decrease in urine output → severe edema or urination abnormalities.
