This medication helps prevent asthma attacks and provides continuous control. It also alleviates the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, improving the respiratory health of patients. It is effectively used in the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older should take 10 mg orally once daily as Montelukast. This medication should be taken once daily; asthma patients should take it in the evening, while allergic rhinitis patients should determine the dosing time according to their condition. The 10 mg orodisperse film should be placed on the tongue and allowed to dissolve without water, taken once daily at 10 mg.

Precautions

This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, so its use should be restricted in patients with phenylketonuria, a hereditary disease. The intake of aspartame should be kept below the WHO recommended levels, and in adults, care should be taken not to exceed a maximum of 2.4g per day. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication and its components should not use it, and since it contains lactose, it should not be administered to patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders. The safety of this medication has been evaluated in clinical trials among patients with asthma and allergic rhinitis; however, some patients may experience adverse reactions such as lethargy, fatigue, headache, dyspepsia, rash, and other abnormal reactions. It is especially important for children, the elderly, pregnant women, and breastfeeding women to consult a physician before use. This medication is not intended for use during acute asthma attacks, so appropriate emergency medications should always be on hand. Patients with aspirin hypersensitivity should avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while using this medication. Neuropsychiatric symptoms may occur during use, so if any unusual symptoms appear, consult a physician immediately. There is no specific antidote for overdose; general symptomatic treatment and clinical monitoring are necessary. This medication is sensitive to light, so it should be opened just before use and stored out of the reach of children. Additionally, this medication should be taken continuously even when asthma symptoms are absent, and the dosage of other asthma medications should not be reduced or stopped without a physician’s guidance.
