Precautions

This medication is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Before using this medication, the physician should confirm the underlying cause of erectile dysfunction through the patient's medical history and physical examination. Sexual activity can put strain on the heart; therefore, patients with cardiovascular diseases must consult with their physician. If cardiovascular symptoms occur during sexual activity, stop immediately and inform a doctor. This medication can rarely cause an erection lasting more than 4 hours (priapism), and in such cases, immediate medical attention is required. Patients taking nitrate medications or NO donors may experience dangerously low blood pressure from this medication, and must verify beforehand. Patients with a recent history of myocardial infarction, acute cardiac arrest, unstable angina, ventricular arrhythmias, or stroke should not use this medication. Patients with genetic retinal diseases or known allergies to any component of this medication should also avoid its use. Combining this medication with other erectile dysfunction treatments is not recommended as safety has not been established. Patients with severely impaired kidney or liver function need to exercise special caution when using this medication. When using alpha-blockers, blood pressure may drop too low, hence concurrent use is not advisable. Alcohol intake should be moderated during the use of this medication; excessive drinking can cause dizziness or low blood pressure. This medication is not intended for use by women, children, or infants. Any symptoms of dizziness, vision changes, or hearing loss after taking this medication should be immediately discussed with a doctor. In the case of overdose, standard treatment should be administered, and dialysis is not effective in removing this medication from the body.
