Treatment of essential hypertension and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This medication stabilizes blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension, helping with blood pressure management. It is also used to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and mortality due to cardiovascular diseases in patients aged 55 and older who are at high risk for conditions such as coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, and stroke. Through these actions, it effectively improves cardiovascular health for patients.
1. Essential Hypertension Adults: Administer 40 mg of Telmisartan orally once daily with water, with or without food. If necessary, it can begin at 20 mg orally once daily and may be increased up to 80 mg once daily. 2. Reduction of Cardiovascular Disease Risk Adults: Administer 80 mg orally once daily with water, with or without food.
This medication can pose serious risks, especially to the fetus and newborn during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. It should not be administered to women with an allergic reaction to this medication, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with severe liver impairment or biliary obstruction, patients with certain hereditary angioedema, or patients with diabetes or severe renal impairment. Caution is advised when using this medication in elderly patients or those with hyperkalemia, mild to moderate liver impairment, heart valve diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, renal artery hypertension, or severe renal impairment. Various adverse reactions may occur during treatment, so the patient's condition should be closely monitored, especially for symptoms such as hypotension, worsening renal function, hyperkalemia, angioedema, hepatic dysfunction, interstitial pneumonia, and rhabdomyolysis. Patients with impaired renal function or who have received kidney transplants should have their serum potassium and creatinine levels checked regularly, and patients with hypovolemia or sodium deficiency may be at risk for hypotension; thus, corrections should be made before administration. Care should be taken when used with other drugs that increase antihypertensive effects, especially with other RAAS acting drugs, potassium-sparing diuretics, and NSAIDs, as there is a higher risk of worsening renal function or hyperkalemia. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not use this medication, and breastfeeding women should also avoid its use. Safety and efficacy in children under 18 years have not been established, so its use is not recommended. In elderly patients, there is a risk of excessive blood pressure reduction leading to stroke, so administration should be done with caution. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, dizziness, and acute renal failure may occur, so immediate medical attention is required, and blood pressure and electrolyte status should be monitored regularly. It is best to store this medication in a tightly sealed container, out of reach of children, and avoid transferring it to other containers. Caution is needed while driving or operating dangerous machinery as dizziness or fainting may occur.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to protect it from air and moisture and kept at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius for safety. This way, the effectiveness of the medication can be well maintained.
